Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where is Vanity Fur located?

We are located in the Pine Street shopping center, behind the El Dorado restaurant.

  • What sizes of dogs are accepted?

We are happy to accommodate all dogs between the teeniest-tiniest of pups to the biggest, hairiest of canines!

  • What if I don't know what kind of haircut I want?

That’s okay! We’ll work on finding a length and style for your pup at drop off. If you have some pictures of cuts that you like please feel free to bring them!

  • What vaccinations are required?

We require all dogs staying with us to be vaccinated against Rabies, Bordetella (kennel cough) and Distemper (often labelled as DAPP or DA2PPL on vaccine paperwork). We do not send out reminders when our records show your dog’s vaccines have expired. If your dog’s vaccines are more than 7 days expired, we cannot allow them to stay for a groom.

Some local veterinarians do not recommend the DAPP vaccine for dogs who have been routinely vaccinated for over 10 years of their life. If this is your case, please have your vet send us a letter or email exempting them from the vaccine.

If your dog needs an exemption from certain vaccines due to medical reasons, please have your vet send us a note!

  • What if my puppy doesn't have all his shots yet?

Most vets fully vaccinate dogs at 16 weeks old. We highly recommend puppies getting their Bordetella and Distemper boosters before coming to the groomer due to the highly contagious nature of the diseases.

If your puppy is under 16 weeks old and has gotten as many vaccines as your vet requires at their age, we are happy to introduce them to the grooming process!

  • What if I work all day and can't pick up my dog when he's ready?

No worries! Our regular drop off time is between 8am-9am. We’ll give you a call when your pup is ready, and you’re welcome to pick them up anytime before 5:00pm.

  • What if my dog doesn't do well in a kennel all day?

Also no worries! When you book your appointment, ask for an express groom. We’ll pick a designated time for you to drop your pup off, and we’ll work on getting your dog out as soon as possible.

Most small dogs take 1-2 hours, and large dogs can take up to 2-3.5 hours.

We can also arrange a later drop off time - for example, bring your pup in at noon, and we’ll have them done between 3:30-5:00.

  • How do I book an appointment?

Give us a call at (816)331-6242. We’ll ask for your first and last name, your phone number, and your dog’s breed, size and name. We’ll find a date and time that works for both of us, and have you bring your vaccination records on the day of the appointment. We can’t wait to see you!

  • What if my dog is matted?

Vanity Fur follows the “humanity over vanity” motto. We do not push dogs to endure detangling of matting. If a dog has extreme matting or pelting on any portion of their body, we will shave them as short as we need to in order to remove the pelting. We highly recommend booking a recurring schedule of 4, 6, or 8 weeks and doing thorough brushing every day at home to keep your pup’s coat and skin healthy.

We will attempt to brush out small tangles in the ears, tail, or face if your dog allows us to, but we may have to trim areas to make the process as comfortable as possible.

  • Does Vanity Fur groom cats?

    Not at this time.

  • Is there a cancellation policy?

Vanity Fur does not currently have a cancellation policy. We do ask that you call and let us know 48 hours before your appointment if you need to cancel or reschedule so your groomer can fill in the now empty slot in their schedule.

Repeat offenders of no-call no-showing may not be granted an appointment.

  • What payment types are accepted?

We accept cash, check, or card.

There is a 3% processing fee added to all card transactions.

We have the right to refuse a check in the event that we have received a bounced check in the past from a client.
